Yesterday was a very cool day for me, and it involved a wedding. Mind you, I am NOT a fan of going to weddings. They're just not my thing I guess, but I was looking forward to the drive to Tyler, TX to see my childhood friend, Bryan Neal, get hitched.
The reason it was so cool is that it has been 6 years or so since I have seen him and we are buddies from my early days outside Atlanta, GA. A contingent of folks from Atlanta made the trip out to TX and it had been years, I mean like 14+ years since I had seen these people. It was great catching up with another buddy of mine, Michael Daniels. He was always the artistic dude and has made a career out of it as a graphic designer for Mizuno, the sporting good company. That is funny in instelf because Michael never played sports and now he hangs out with pro athletes all the time and could care less about it.
The other side of this story is that I actually hooked Bryan up with some college buddies of mine after he graduated college. Bryan and I did not attend the same college and he was hating his job in Nashville, TN. I told him I had some buddies that lived in TX that were into "daytrading" stocks which is what Bryan wanted to try. Well, they flew him out, hired him, and he has built a small empire in Tyler. Not really, but Bryan has thrived in East Texas.
I also saw three college teammates. Shawn Tathum, Brad Trump, and Brandon Parker. We all played soccer at Lee University and they all ended up in Tyler. It was flashback/reminiscing overload. It was a ton of fun and Heather was gracious enough to let us stay a little longer than we had planned.
Jonathan and Meagan watched the kids and Heather and I had a lot of time to talk on the trip there and back. Honestly I enjoyed that as much as anything else last night.
Like I said, yesterday was a very cool day for me.
