The alarm went off just before 6:00 a.m. and I hit the snooze, slept nine more minutes, and hopped out of bed. I was excited because this was not just a regular Friday. I knew that I was going to make the days of 60-70 people before the clock hit 8:00 a.m. We placed an order for nearly 100 breakfast tacos from Chiloso Mexican restaurant earlier this week. I was there to pick them up at 6:45 and off to the school by 7:00. We take bacon egg & cheese tacos once every five or six weeks for the teachers at Dorris-Cullins Lakepointe Elementary.
It is a highlight of my week every time we take the tacos. The teachers are incredibly grateful for the treat. Many of them forget that we are coming and are so excited and bubbly when they come to get the taco. You would think that we were giving away $100 bills. They thank us over and over. We don't do it to get their thanks or praise, it is just fun to see the expressions on their faces. They have figured out by now that there is no "hitch" with the food. We don't put out info cards or constantly talk to them about our church. We just feed them a taco, wish them a great day, and disappear before the bell rings for the first class of the day. It is amazing how many of them ask how things are going with the church and tell us that they are praying for us. How cool is that?
The day started great and is heading towards a stellar conclusion as Heather and I will join Meagan and the birthday boy, Jonathan for an adults-only dinner. I am blessed to work with a man that has become a true friend and tremendous partner in ministry.
