I love my life

Heather and I recently had a dinner where we made some decisions that brought us a lot freedom and relived some burdens from our family.  We had both been working very hard, she with kids and online tutoring, and me with the church and reffing soccer games several nights a week.  Truthfully, there was not much joy in our relationship, we rarely connected in conversation other than to coordinate schedules, and some drastic changes needed to be made.  We were both short with the kids, each other, and I really think I was heading towards depression.

Some of the changes we made were:
  • Heather would drop her tutoring hours.
  • I would only ref two days a week, one weeknight, and at most two early games on Saturday.
  • I began playing in a soccer league on Friday nights.  Scored my first goal of the season tonight and it was a come from behind game winner.  Shamless plug I know.
  • We established Tuesday nights as family night.  Usually it means we eat at Chicfila and hang out together.
  • We established a date night at least 3 times a month.  These are highlights of my week.  I love hanging out with my wife without the kids around.  She is beautiful, intelligent, and a ton of fun to hang out with.  It can get old wrestling kids in a restaurant.  We have no grandparents here locally to dump them with so we have relied on good friends to help us out.  Thanks so much to those of you who have blessed us with free childcare.
God has led us here to continue the work begun in Rowlett three years ago, I still wonder why in the world he chose me.  I get to do all this with Sprang who has become one of the best friends I have ever had.  I get to prod, push, and guide him and be challenged by him at the same times.  I truly believe Sprang is one of the top worship leaders in the Dallas area, and he is leading for 60 people each week and is loving it.  He has developed so many "extra" talents in the last year that just amaze me.

I am seeing God bring together two distinct generations in this church and everyone is playing nice and getting along nicely so far.  I am seeing God bring us people who barely know what Nazarene is along with people that have only been Nazarene.  I am seeing God bring us pre-christians, younger believers, and mature believers. The diversity is a beautiful thing.

I have two of the most beautiful children God has ever created.  I have once chance to inspire them to Love God with all their might and care for others.  I will do everything in my power to model what it looks like to be a God follower for these two.

I say all this to say, I love my life.  I honestly can't imagine doing anything else.
