Sunday Recap...

Where to start with Sunday's recap...
  • I get to church only to find that the computer we use for checking-in the kids is non-functional (appears to be a faulty video card).
  • We begin the first service and our stage lights start an impromptu light show. Flashing lights, no lights, lights that stay on for a few seconds then go off.
  • I was sitting on the front row and was going nuts. I head back to the media booth and they are ready to crawl out the back door, they are so frustrated at the lights with a mind of their own.
  • A little pastor secret: many of us do not do well with distractions before we preach. In other words, prior to preaching is the worst time for people to unload terrible news on us or for technology to go haywire.
  • Imagine that you are making a major presentation at work and you get all these little things going wrong just before the presentation. It can throw you off your "A" game quickly.
  • That is a bit how I felt about the first service and on top of it it was a very small group in the room. That is always hard for the group dynamics of preaching.
  • The service ended up being ok, but I was hoping for a better second service.
  • By the time the second one rolled around we knew that the computer was broken, and the demon in the lighting system had been exorcised.
  • The music seemed to click a bit more in the second service as well this week.
  • I also felt better about the sermon in the second service. This is quite the opposite from how I usually feel.
  • The second service was HUGE in terms of attendance as well. It felt like our service before we transitioned to two services. I found out later we had 171 people at church on Sunday, a new record for Catalyst. Even bigger than Easter this year. How cool is that?
  • Got a lot of good feedback from folks telling me it was a sermon they needed to hear. Even saw a few tears, probably tears of joy that it was over, lol.
  • The kids and I took Heather to Chiloso Mexican Bistro in Wylie for lunch. The food there is always good.
  • We went to a birthday party in the afternoon. Thought it was weird to have it on Mother's day, but a lot of our friends were there and we had a good time.
  • I must have gotten bit by an allergy bug at the party. My face filled quickly with snot and I sneezed well over a hundred times in the next few hours.
  • We went on a group date with some friends to Pei Wei and to see Iron Man 2.
  • We honored Heather with cards, flowers, a homemade garden stone, and tickets to "Wicked" later this month.
  • All in all it was a great day.
