I was wrong. While several families where gone, we had quite a few visitors and a good contingent of folks that came to watch a couple of guest musicians play with the Catalyst Worship Band.
Overall, I felt Sunday was a great day. Here is a run down:
- Opened with Jimi Hendrix version of the Star Spangled Banner and it raaawwked! Our good friend Samuel Holder nailed it. Folks in the second service stood in respect, very cool.
- The worship set was solid as always, sometimes I think we take this for granted.
- We started a new teaching series called "What up with That?" where we are looking at some misunderstood passages of scriptures or topics within American Christianity.
- We kicked the series off by looking at the often sold wall plaque scripture of Jerimiah 29:11-13. "I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord...."
- We looked at the broader context of who God was talking to, a group of people, not individuals.
- We really honed in on the idea of God's "plan" for us and tried to get at the heart of that word. To understand that his not a plan like we think it. It is not set of directions, step-by-step instructions, or a blueprint for our life.
- The word plan is better understood, "dreams" or "highest hopes" and God invites us to join him in the journey of fulfilling those plans.
- I don't want to rehash the whole sermon here, but it was a lot of fun to preach. I feel like God gave me some solid images and content to work with.
- Loved the closing song, "Closer". Seemed to support the time in the Word very well.
- Headed to a new Pizza Joint in Rowlett, "Urban Slice" for lunch. Pizza buffet at lunch and it did not disappoint.
- Took the kids home for a nap and ended up taking a nice nap myself.
- Headed out to hang with some good friends, the Booth family and their extended family for some good eats and a private fireworks show. Great times.
- It was a great fourth!
