“It's the best kept secret in town...”
I recently used these words to tell someone about my favorite tacqueira. The reason it is the best kept secret is that it is located inside a gas station on the edge of town. I have no idea and really don't care what their health rating is, I love their tacos. Unfortunately for the owner, I have never had to wait as it seems very few people even know this place exists.
Maybe you have these places as well. Perhaps its your favorite salon, day spa, specialty shop, burger joint, thrift shop, mechanic, or online vendor. We all have these places that we know and love, and they are always changing because secrets can only be kept for so long. Someone tells someone who tells someone who tells someone... I guess you get the idea.
Over the last five years, I have come to know more small business owners than I have known in my other 31 years combined. One thing I have learned from them is that they never want the words, “Its the best kept secret in town” uttered about their store! How do I know this? Because I have met most of them at networking events where they are trying to get the word out about their business in hopes that those of us in the room will tell our friends when they need whatever service they offer.
I could be wrong (it happens occasionally), but I honestly think Catalyst falls into the “best kept secret in town” category at this point. And just like my business owning friends, I am not a fan of it. It is a secret that I want told again, again and again. I want it told so often that it is no longer a secret.
So, and I know this is what you have been waiting on …
• You have my permission to tell people what God is doing at your church.
• You have my permission to tell them how God uses the music to speak to you.
• You have my permission to tell them that your pastor is a nut job, yet somehow God finds a way to use him.
• You have my permission to tell them that the people who make up your church are some of the best around.
These are secrets that I don't want to be secret anymore. If you attend a church anywhere, I encourage you to tell people about your church in the same way you tell them about your salon, spa, burger joints, and thrift stores.
